Bay-Houston Towing Co... "Growing to Meet Your Needs"
The
origins of Bay-Houston Towing Company date to the late 19th century when W.D.
Haden utilized the initiative to tow sailing vessels in narrow inland channels
with a team of mules. From this humble beginning, Captain Haden developed
the Bay Towing Company. As the ports on the Gulf Coast grew, Captain
Haden's tugs were part of that growth. When the Port of Corpus Christi
started operating in 1926, Bay Towing provided the first tug.
Captain W.D. Haden's son Cecil purchased the Houston Towing Company in 1948, merging the two companies to form Bay-Houston Towing Company. The company has continued to grow with the development of the ports served by it since that time.
The company has advanced in many ways since those days when service was provided by wooden steam tugs with primitive means of communications systems. We now have a modern fleet that is the largest on the Texas Coast, with up to date communications and an efficient dispatching system to ensure the best utilization of our fleet. We continue to evaluate our customer needs to ensure that our fleet can meet anticipated needs of the ports. In the last ten years, we have re-powered six existing tugs to provide increased power and reliability to handle the larger ships now visiting our ports. In the past five years we have added three new tugs to the fleet, and we are especially proud of our newest addition , the 4,300bhp Z-drive tug, Mathew K.
Our primary business is the provision of harbor tug service to our Texas ports of Houston, Galveston, Texas City, Freeport, and Corpus Christi. We serve the deep sea shipping industry, providing docking, shifting, and undocking services for vessels calling at our ports. Major market segments served include chemical and gas carriers, tankers, grain ships, car carriers, container ships and general cargo vessels.
